ARTICLE I --- PURPOSE
Section 1 The Plumbing-Heating-Cooling-Contractors of North Carolina Auxiliary Education and Scholarship Action Team hereby establishes an annual Scholarship Award to honor and further the education of worthy individuals pursuant to the regulations hereby set up.
Section 2 This Scholarship Award shall be known as the Grace Sullivan Memorial Scholarship Award, shall be at least in the amount of one thousand ($1000) dollars, and shall be presented at or before the annual summer convention of the PHCC North Carolina.
ARTICLE II--ELIGIBILITY
Section 1.. In order to be eligible for this one-year one-time only scholarship award, the applicant must be the child, grand-child, or sibling child of a contractor who is a current member or associate member of the Plumbing-Heating Cooling-Contractors of North Carolina (or said a relative of a deceased member).
Section 2.. Or the applicant may also be said relative of an employee who has been employed for a minimum of five (5) years by a member or associate member of the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling-Contractors of North Carolina. Said applicant must be sponsored by the member or associate member.
ARTICLE III-- SCHOLARSHIP REQUIREMENTS
Section 1.. To qualify for this Scholarship Award, the applicant, within the class stipulated above, must be either: (a) a graduate or a candidate for graduation within (6) months of high school in the public school system of North Carolina or, a graduate or a candidate for graduation within six (6) months of some recognized private or denominational school at the high school level; or (b) a student in good standing already enrolled in a college, university, trade school or registered apprentice program.
Section 2.. The applicant must be a student of good standing and must have maintained a scholastic average of C or better for the previous two (2) years of an academic course or study preceding the date of application.
Section 3a…College or university applicants must furnish three (3) letters of recommendation, including a letter from their high school principal or college or university dean certifying as to the applicant’s scholastic ability, character, and worthiness to receive this financial award for furthering their education.
Section 3b…Trade School or Apprentice program applicants must furnish three (3) letters of recommendation, including a letter from their high school principal or program administrator certifying as to the applicant’s scholastic ability, character, and worthiness to receive this financial award forfurthering their education.
ARTICLE IV --APPLICATIONS
Section 1 Applicant shall, on or before the 30th day of June of a given year, apply by: (a) writing a letter of application to the Chair of the Scholarship Committee. (b) Enclosing with the letter are the three (3) letters of recommendation and a transcript of the applicant’s scholastic record for the preceding two (2) years. (c) Application must be postmarked by April 15.
ARTICLE V --AWARD
Section 1 Following the receipt of applications for the award, the Chair of the Scholarship Committee shall call a meeting of the committee for the purpose of passing upon the applications and shall decide the recipient of the Scholarship Award to be used in furthering the applicant’s education at a recognized college, university or recognized and approved trade school or registered apprenticeship program. In making the award the committee shall give consideration to the following factors: (a) Scholarship (b) Character (c) Worthiness (d) Personality. If the committee chooses, it may ask the applicants to appear for a personal interview.
Section 2 On determining the recipient of the award, the committee shall notify the Chair of the Auxiliary Education and Scholarship Action Team of its decision, and the Chair of the Scholarship Committee shall thereupon notify the recipient of the award and at the same time invite the applicant to attend the summer convention for presentation of the award.
ARTICLE VI --CONDITIONS
Payment of the Scholarship Award shall be to the college, university, trade school, or registered apprentice program of the recipient’s choice at the beginning of the applicant’s first semester or quarter of study. The Auxiliary Education and Scholarship Action Team reserves the right to make exceptions in the dispensing of funds in regards to financial aid criteria.
ARTICLE VII-- GENERAL
Section 1 The Scholarship Committee reserves the right to reject any and all applicants for the award should they not prove desirable.
Section 2 If scholarship is awarded to a member company, sponsoring a scholarship recipient, that and is running their own program, funds or remaining funds, will be returned to the scholarship fund within 60 days, if recipient drops from enrollment for any reason.
