Whitaker-Long Scholarship

Honoring Two Remarkable Legacies
The Whitaker-Long Scholarship was created by Rick Whitaker and Joel Long to honor their fathers, Norman J. Whitaker and Ronald J. Long Sr. These two men exemplified community service and dedication, values that their sons wish to pass on by providing financial aid to students in need.

Scholarship Overview:

• Eligibility:
  • Must be the child of an employee currently working for, or an individual currently working for, a PHCC of NC Member company.
  • Must reside in North Carolina
  • Aged 16–25 years
  • Active in extracurricular activities
• Requirements:
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Transcript from most recent educational institution

Grace Sullivan Memorial Scholarship

A Tribute to Family and Education
The Grace Sullivan Memorial Scholarship offers financial aid to students with a connection to members of the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling-Contractors of North Carolina (PHCC-NC). This one-time scholarship will be awarded during the annual summer convention.

Eligibility:

• Must be a child, grandchild, or sibling of a PHCC-NC member/associate member (or of a deceased member)
• OR a relative of an employee who has worked for a PHCC-NC member for at least 2 years

Requirements:

• Must be a high school graduate (or within six months of graduation) OR
  • Already enrolled in a college, university, trade school, or apprenticeship program
• Must have maintained a scholastic average of C or better for an academic year immediately prior to the date of the application.
• Provide three letters of recommendation, including a letter from their high school principal/counselor or college or university dean or academic advisor

Application Deadline: June 30th

Payment:
Scholarship funds will be paid directly to the institution at the beginning of the first semester or quarter.

National PHCC Scholarships

PHCC offers a variety of scholarships at the national level to students pursuing careers in the plumbing, heating, and cooling industry. Each year, thousands of dollars in scholarships are awarded to help the next generation grow and thrive in the trade.

Applications and all supporting materials will be due May 1, 2025.

To apply, apprentices working for PHCC members need:

• A letter of recommendation from the PHCC business owner or their manager. Need help getting started? Look at these SAMPLE RECOMMENDATION LETTERS.
• Answers to 5 questions about their background and interests.
  – Optional – Grades and a letter of recommendation from their apprentice program instructor.
